US Open!! 5th Day Predictions…

… The 3rd Round gets underway with seeded players meeting each other for the first time in the tournament!!

Lepchenko - Stosur: Stosur has looked incredibly impressive in her first couple of matches this week, whilst Lepchenko has struggled a little. This match should be Stosur’s however, if the nerves get to her (as they usually do) then she might struggle. 5/1 is great odds for Lepchenko!!

Tipsarevic - Baker: Brian Baker was surprisingly impressive in his 1st round match, whilst Tipsarevic has to battle for 5 sets. With the American crowd on his side, Baker’s dream resurgence could continue, with odds of 7/2!!

Baghdatis - Dolgopolov: Baghdatis has had a good second half of the year, taking sets off Andy Murray in two of their encounters on grass. Dolgopolov hasn’t quite lived up to his potential yet, whilst Baghdatis is a pro who knows how to play on the big occasions. Baghdatis has odds of 11/8 to take this match!!

Fognini - Garcia-Lopez: Fognini has had a pretty decent year, and is improving all the time. This match could easily go either way, yet Fognini’s odds of 6/5 could be worth a gamble on!!

US Open!! 2nd Day Predictions…

… Let’s hope the good fortune of yesterday’s picks carries into today’s!!

Mattek-Sands - Venus Williams: This could be an interesting one… Venus has been battling disease for a while now, and when it works against her she really struggles to play well. Mattek-Sands has also had her fair share of injuries, and is only just making her comeback to tennis after a long time away. This match could go either way, Venus could take an easy win, or it could be a big struggle. The odds for Venus winning in 3 sets are 4/1, and odds for Mattek-Sands taking the match at all are 8/1!!

Goffin - Berdych: Tough 1st round for the 6th seed. Outside of his miracle runs at both the French Open & Wimbledon, Goffin has been less than impressive. However, Berdych has had a pretty average year for someone ranked so highly. Goffin clearly thrives in the high-pressure Grand Slam environment over 5 sets, and definitely stands a chance. How much of a chance depends on how well Berdych decides to play. Goffin has odds of 5/1!!

Jankovic - Bondarenko: It’s no secret that Jankovic has had a pretty poor year. The consistent top ten player comes into the US Open seeded a lowly 30th, playing somebody who was once as high ranked as that herself. Bondarenko hasn’t had such a great year herself, but definitely has the ability to pull out a big win on the day. The fact that she’s competing means she must be in good health, and so anything can happen. Bondarenko has odds of 12/5!!

Peng - Vesnina: We’ve all seen what Vesnina can do when it all fits into place. Knocking Venus Williams out of Wimbledon made Vesnina known to millions of tennis fans who would otherwise pass by her name in any draw. Peng has had a good consistent year, but Vesnina on her day can blast the majority of players on the court. She has odds to beat Peng of 9/4!!

Pironkova - Giorgi: Giorgi is having somewhat of a breakthrough year on the WTA tour, whilst Pironkova still only seems to enjoy success on the grass. Giorgi has odds of 11/8 to beat the former Wimbledon semi-finalist!!

Jovanovski - Barthel: Barthel has has to battle with injury this year, whilst Jovanovski recently won her first WTA title during the Olympics. Both players tend to be very up and down in their form, however recent records suggest Jovanovski has a chance to take this. She has odds of 3/1!!

Good luck everyone!! Hope these work out for you!!

Hard to Believe…

That its been 7 years since Andy Murray defeated Tomas Berdych!!

But it has been, and Andy changed that statistic today with a simple-ish 6-3 7-5 win over the Czech…

And with that win, the top 4 of the men’s game are showing the (ever changing) top 4 of the women’s game a thing or two about the consistency needed to stay at the highest level of the game… As Murray’s win today brought the Top 4 to a collective 42-2 record over all other players so far in 2012!!
